Week after week we try to help you stay out of trouble. But what we don’t often discuss is the best thing to do when you find yourself unexpectedly in hot water. We thought we would take a break from our normally scheduled broadcast to point out an employer who did a great job of doing a bad job.
After learning that they had unknowingly violated the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and owed employees $44,441 in back wages, South Carolina restaurant chain Miyo’s released a statement saying “we made a mistake, we owned it.” They quickly fixed the violations and vowed to follow FLSA regulations in the future – proving the adage “we all make mistakes, but it is how you learn from those mistakes that is important.” We say, kudos Miyo’s!
