Question and answer: To certify or not to certify?

Question: Do you feel HR certifications – Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) – are worth the time and money it takes to obtain them?

Answer: A recent study from PayScale.com says, “Yes.”  According to them:

  • HR Administrators with either certification (PHR or SPHR) earn an average of $4,700 per year more than uncertified HR Administrators.
  • HR Generalists without either certification earn an average of $7,000 less per year than employees with certifications in the same position.
  • If you’re an HR Manager, you’d be earning an average of $10,700 more each year if you obtained either certification.
  • In major metro areas (D.C., Boston, New York City, Chicago, and Los Angeles), certified HR employees make over $20,000 more each year than their uncertified co-workers.

Pretty big differences, right? Click here to check out the full (and oh, so nifty) infographic from PayScale.com.
