Did you hear? Oral complaints are now protected from retaliation under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Oh, if only my mother-in-law was my boss!
In a case last week, the Supreme Court decided that language in the FLSA – saying employees can’t be discriminated against because he or she “filed any complaint” – should not be limited to written complaints, but should include verbal complaints, as well.
So if you’ve been complaining to your co-workers about your pay rate, are you now safe from retaliation?
