How part-time employees factor into the healthcare reform

If you’re an employer with a mix of part-time and full-time employees, pay attention! Our partners at Bass Berry & Sims have written a great article (“Treatment of Part-Time Employees Under Health Reform”) on how part-time employees factor into the grand picture of your company’s future commitments under the new healthcare reform. And some of the information included might surprise you.

Did you know the employer mandate only requires coverage with respect to full-time employees, but part-time employees’ hours are counted toward the determination of how many full-time employees you have on staff? For example, three part-time employees’ hours may be combined to count as one “full-time employee.”  If you’re closing in on that 50-employee marker, this could have a big impact on your company.

You can find out more about this topic (and gain more information on how part-time employees factor into the new system) by reading the article here.
